A Covington woman who allegedly shot a man during a fit of rage in a Target parking lot last year was indicted last week in a DeKalb County court.

A grand jury formally charged Tara Moody with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to DeKalb court records.

Prosecutors allege that Moody shot Robert Herwig of Decatur outside the store on Lavista Road in July 2017.

Herwig left his SUV after he and Moody tried to drive around a truck at the same time in the parking lot, police said. Neither driver budged, according to surveillance video, and Herwig then approached Moody, according to Channel 2 Action News.

He first poured water on her car, then poured it on her twice, police said.

“The female entered into her vehicle and appeared to produce a firearm,” the incident report stated.

After the shooting, the woman drove away from the scene, and Herwig, holding his chest, stumbled into the store and was later taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition, police said.

She was arrested and later released from jail on a $50,000 bond.

Investigators arrested the woman Tuesday night.
