The Atlanta police SWAT team was sent to a Castleberry Hill business early this morning after a man was pistol-whipped during an attempted robbery, but when officers entered the building, they found that the suspect had already fled.

The incident happened at the Shoe Lounge, a women’s shoe store on Walker Street in southwest Atlanta.

Store owner Janeen Soler said her manager, who lives in an apartment above the store, had company “and the guy that was here visiting him tried to rob him.”

She said the manager, whose name has not been released, was pistol-whipped before climbing over a balcony to a neighbor’s apartment and calling police.

Soler said police, acting on the belief that the suspect was still inside the building, called in the SWAT team, and after about two hours, those officers entered and searched the store and apartment.

“They didn’t get anybody,” Soler said. “He had already gone.”

Soler said her manager was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. “He was bleeding a lot, I guess from being pistol-whipped,” she said.

“We have break-ins and we have smash-and-grabs, but nothing this bad to where there was blood and guns.”
