A botched armed robbery in Rockdale County has led to murder charges against four metro Atlanta residents.

The suspects allegedly tried to rob a couple Dec. 11 during an arranged sale of hair weaves, authorities said. A shootout ensued and one of the suspects,Jennifer Menzies, 21, was shot multiple times. She later died at Rockdale Medical Center.

In addition to felony murder charges, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office has charged the remaining four suspects with criminal attempt to commit armed robbery. The suspects are Brandon Jay Lamothe and Jaquan House, both 20 and from Conyers; James Wansley Edwards, 21, of Stone Mountain; and Christina Menzies, 19, of Covington.

According to Rockdale authorities, Christina Menzies had arranged to meet a man and woman to buy hair weaves. They agreed to meet in the parking lot of the swimming pool area of Fountain Crest subdivision on Ga. 138/Ga. 20 South.

The couple, whose names were not released, told Rockdale authorities a group emerged from the bushes and came toward their truck. One of the group was pointing a handgun, according to the sheriff’s office. The couple exchanged gunfire with the suspects. During the gun battle, Jennifer Menzies was shot, authorities said.

Christina Menzies left the scene in a vehicle with Jennifer Menzies, authorities said. They were headed toward Rockdale Medical when they were stopped by a sheriff’s deputy who called an ambulance to take Jennifer Menzies to the hospital. Christina Menzies was arrested. It is unclear whether Christina and Jennifer Menzies are related.

House was caught near the scene of the alleged robbery attempt. Authorities found Lamothe and Edwards two days later, with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service.
