A man wanted in a double shooting at a DeKalb County home was found dead after a SWAT team entered a Rockdale County house Saturday evening, authorities said.

Louis Hicks, who is believed to be in his 50s, was wanted in the non-fatal shooting of a woman and man in the 6800 block of Timberhead Way around 6:30 p.m., DeKalb police spokeswoman Michaela Vincent said. Prior to the shooting, Hicks was involved in a physical fight “with relatives” at the scene.

The woman was shot in the back and grazed by a bullet in the left calf, an incident report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution states. The man was grazed by a bullet in his right leg, leaving a “minor laceration,” according to the report. The woman was taken to a hospital and the man refused treatment, Vincent said. Hicks fled the scene before officers arrived, she said.

The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office was quickly alerted by DeKalb that Hicks had fled. Authorities were led to a home about 10 miles from the shooting location in the 1200 block of Castle Point Court to conduct a weapons search warrant about 6:55 p.m., sheriff’s office spokeswoman Deputy Jedidia Canty said.

A SWAT team eventually breached the home between 3 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and found Hicks dead from a gunshot wound, authorities said. The sheriff’s office has not confirmed if the shooting was self-inflicted.
