The man charged with murder in Sunday night’s stabbing death of a Coweta County teen at Woodruff Park has been arrested several times in recent years, Fulton County jail records show.

Cody Wayne Phillips, 17, of Senoia, was stabbed in the chest Sunday night after an argument, and died later at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta police said.

Georgia State University police arrested Trenton Anderson, 26, a short distance from the park, and Anderson was charged with murder by Atlanta police.

According to online records, Anderson has been booked into the Fulton County jail five previous times since 2010 on charges ranging from trespassing to simple battery. His last arrest was on June 26 for aggravated battery, and he was released from the jail on July 12.

Coweta County sheriff's Lt. John Kennedy told the Newnan Times-Herald that Phillips was listed as a missing person in May, but was quickly found by police in LaGrange. He was later reported as a runaway by LaGrange authorities, and found in Coweta County. He was taken to a regional Youth Detention Center in Clayton County, according to the Times-Herald.

The funeral for Phillips will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Community Christian Church in Sharpsburg.
