Authorities are searching for a 20-year-old man in connection with a shooting that sent a 70-year-old Covington woman to a hospital with serious injuries.
The victim was found at a home off Heaton Place Trail on Monday night, according to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies performed first aid before she was taken to a hospital with “major injuries,” the agency said in a news release.
She was still being treated Tuesday, and an update on her condition was not provided.
Investigators have identified Isaiah McKester Gilbert as a suspect in the shooting. They did not disclose the circumstances surrounding the shooting or say if Gilbert and the victim knew each other.
Gilbert reportedly left the scene in a blue Dodge Charger and has not been located, the sheriff’s office said. He is wanted on three counts of aggravated assault and single counts each of criminal damage to property and possessing a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Investigator Andrinne Roop at aroop@newtonsheriffga.org or 678-625-1465.
