Expect a chilly start to your work and school day Monday as cold temperatures stick around for another day.

It won’t be as cold as Sunday morning when temperatures were in the 20s at daybreak in parts of metro Atlanta and there was a hard freeze outside the Perimeter and in North Georgia.

Monday will start out with a low of about 38, said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz. Then it get’s better.

“Mostly sunny and back to the mid-60s,” Nitz said. “A cold front brings a chance of rain Tuesday, followed by a return of some sunshine, but also cooler temperatures by mid-week.”

Tuesday’s high will drop back to the low 60s before falling to the mid-50s on Wednesday. Nighttime lows will reach the upper 30s Monday before climbing to the upper 40s Tuesday and returning to the lower 40s Wednesday night.

During any hard freeze, steps should be taken to protect pipes, pets and plants. Protect water pipes by sealing openings where cold air can get around pipes, covering pipes with insulation sleeves, leaving cabinet doors open under sinks to allow warm air to get underneath and letting faucets drip slowly, according to the Institute for Business and Home Safety.

Pets should be sheltered from the cold, and plants should be protected if left outside.
