After a stormy start to the weekend, Sunday is shaping up to be a much nicer day.

The rain is expected to hold off as the afternoon high reaches 73 degrees in Atlanta, making it a perfect day to get outdoors, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.

“With plenty of sunshine, it’s going to be a great Sunday,” he said.

The dry weather should be a nice change of pace after thunderstorms rolled through metro Atlanta on Saturday morning, toppling trees in some areas and leaving East Point residents without power for several hours. Hail was reported in parts of metro Atlanta late Saturday afternoon into the evening.

The picturesque springtime weather will also set the tone for the next several days, according to the latest forecast. Sunday’s afternoon high is expected to be slightly cooler than average for this time of year, but warmer weather is on the way, Burns said.

Monday’s high is expected to reach 79 degrees in Atlanta, and Tuesday and Wednesday should be above 80.

“It’s hard to believe just a few days ago we had freeze warnings,” Burns said.

No rain is expected for the next three days, but there’s a slight chance of isolated showers by midweek.

Sunday’s forecast is good news for the Atlanta Braves, who will play two games against the Arizona Diamondbacks after Saturday’s matchup was postponed due to inclement weather.

The first game of the doubleheader starts at 1:20 p.m. The Braves recently increased seating capacity at Truist Park to 50%, so Cobb County drivers should expect delays near the Battery ahead of Sunday’s games.

The Georgia Department of Transportation also has several construction projects underway that could lead to delays on metro Atlanta’s interstates. In DeKalb County, crews will close lanes in both directions of I-285 to repave the perimeter between Clifton Springs Road and Moreland Avenue. All lanes should reopen in time for the Monday morning commute.

Drivers should also expect delays near the I-285/Ga. 400 interchange this weekend as road work continues there.
