Metro Atlanta residents are in store for another blistering afternoon on Sunday as temperatures soar above 90 degrees.

The second half of the weekend won’t be quite as warm as Saturday, but those spending time outdoors should drink plenty of water and monitor for signs of heat exhaustion, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

A heat advisory was issued for much of the state on Saturday as temperatures in Atlanta reached 94 degrees. But with 52% humidity, the temperature outside felt closer to 100, Deon said.

“Take it easy and make sure you’re taking breaks if you’re going to be out in the heat,” Deon cautioned. “Staying hydrated will be key.”

Sunday’s high is expected to reach 93 degrees, but afternoon downpours could bring some welcome relief from the summer heat. The day is expected to start off partly cloudy with a 60% chance of rain, according to the latest forecast.

“The heat returns on Sunday with highs in the lower-to-mid-90s,” Deon said. “Now Sunday does bring some relief. It will be mainly dry to start the day, but we will see some scattered showers and storms developing as we head into the afternoon and evening.”

Those showers are expected to stick around through at least Wednesday, keeping Atlanta’s temperatures in the mid-80s through midweek.

The Atlanta Braves are hosting the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend, so drivers in Cobb County may run into some game-related traffic delays near Truist Park on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:20 p.m., weather permitting.

The Georgia Department of Transportation also has several construction projects underway that could lead to backups on metro Atlanta’s interstates. In DeKalb County, drivers should expect overnight lane closures at the I-285/I-675 interchange as crews repair a bridge there. All lanes should reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, just in time for the morning commute.

Drivers in Douglasville could also see construction-related delays this weekend as crews work to widen Ga. 92 between Malone and Nebo roads, GDOT said.
