A higher chance of widespread storms around metro Atlanta Sunday comes with a silver lining of slightly lower temperatures.

“We’ll start off with a lot of clouds, and temperatures will make it into the mid- and upper-80s,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

A slow-moving cold front is moving into North Georgia Sunday, bringing rain Sunday evening and into Monday, Deon said.

The front “is going to stall out as we get into Tuesday and Wednesday,” Deon said. “Tuesday, another day of wet and stormy conditions. By Wednesday, things will settle down.”

The high temperature Sunday is expected to hit 84, several degrees below the typical high of 90. That high will hold true for the first several days of the workweek.

Rainy weather could put a damper on road work around the metro area, as well as the Atlanta Braves game scheduled for 1:20 p.m. against the Tampa Bay Rays at Truist Park. However, the Georgia Department of Transportation has several projects planned for Sunday.

The southbound exit ramp from Ga. 400 to Lenox Road will have a lane closed Sunday night while crews make safety improvements to the busy interchange. In Cobb County, lane closures will be installed on Veterans Memorial Parkway from the Douglas County line to the Fulton County line for resurfacing overnight.

Also in Fulton, Birmingham Highway will see Sunday night lane closures for a resurfacing project from Arnold Mill Road to the Cherokee County line. In Clayton County, Tara Boulevard will have lane closures installed as a resurfacing project begins.
