After a relatively cool start, Easter Sunday is expected to reach 70 degrees in Atlanta — and there’s no rain in sight.

That’s good news for families getting together to celebrate the holiday outdoors, said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon. With a morning low of just 40 degrees, however, those attending early morning services may want to bundle up.

“Our Easter weekend looks fantastic,” Deon said. “We’re keeping the sunshine around. Temperatures will definitely be on the chilly side early in the day, but by Easter afternoon we’re going to warm up nicely.”

The warm, dry afternoons are expected to stick around through at least midweek, and Wednesday’s high will reach nearly 80 degrees, according to the latest forecast.

“We’re tracking a nice warming trend over the next few days,” Deon said. “But be careful of the pollen if you suffer from allergies.”

As usual, the Georgia Department of Transportation has several projects underway that may lead to delays on metro Atlanta’s interstates. In Gwinnett County, drivers should expect lane closures in both directions of I-85 as crews repair potholes and repaint markings on the interstate between Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Pleasant Hill Road.

The long-term project will last each weekend through June, but all lanes are expected to reopen in time for the Monday morning commute, GDOT said.

A resurfacing project in Marietta could also lead to overnight delays for Cobb County drivers. Lane closures are planned along North Marietta Parkway and South Marietta Parkway starting at 9 p.m. Sunday. All lanes should reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
