Clouds will return to metro Atlanta on Sunday, but the second half of the weekend should remain dry.

While the skies won’t be quite as clear as the first day of spring, temperatures are expected to warm slightly, making it another nice day to get outside, according to the latest forecast.

Sunday’s high is expected to reach 62 degrees by the afternoon, which is slightly cooler than average for this time of year, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.

“There’s a little less sun on Sunday. We’re going to work in a few more clouds,” he said. “But you can still go ahead with those outdoor plans. Sunday still should be a pretty nice afternoon.”

It will be a little chilly in the morning, so those with early plans may want to bring a sweater or a light jacket just in case, Monahan said.

The rain should hold off until Tuesday, when the chance of showers jumps to 30%. Heavier rain is expected on Wednesday as the chance of springtime storms jumps to 70%.

As for weekend traffic, drivers could see some delays in Henry County as NASCAR’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 returns to Atlanta Motor Speedway. Fans weren’t allowed into last year’s race due to the coronavirus pandemic, but they’ll be back at the track for Sunday’s event for the first time since 2019.

In addition, the Georgia Department of Transportation has several road projects planned this weekend that will lead to lane closures on several metro Atlanta interstates. The roadwork is expected to wrap up by the Monday morning commute.
