A new study from the by the American Academy of Pediatrics finds that young children whose parents wash dishes by hand will fare better against allergies than those whose parents use a dishwasher.
The results from the study say, "Hand dishwashing was associated with a reduced risk of allergic disease development." The hypothesis tested was "microbial exposure during early life induces immunologic tolerance via immune stimulation," reducing the risk of allergy development.
The hypothesis and results are also true for families who ate fermented foods and also bought ingredients directly from farms.
The study was conducted on 1,029 children, aged between 7 and 8, in Sweden.
