A 17-year-old student was shot in an Alabama high school gymnasium late Tuesday morning, the Montgomery Advertiser reported.
A suspect was taken into custody after the shooting at Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, authorities confirmed to the newspaper.
Montgomery police said the victim was shot in the arm and was treated by a school nurse, WSFA reported. The victim's injuries were not considered life-threatening, the television station reported.
"At this time we believe the threat is over," Montgomery police Capt. Regina Duckett told reporters.
Charges against the suspect are pending, WSFA reported. Police have not determined a motive and were not certain if the suspect was a student at the high school, the television station reported.
Montgomery Public Schools spokesman Tom Salter said the school is equipped with metal detectors, which were in use Tuesday, according to WSFA.
