A Stone Mountain man was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted Friday for repeatedly sexually assaulting a child in DeKalb County, authorities said.

Zachery Myers, 34, was convicted of child molestation, rape and aggravated child molestation in addition to other charges. He was sentenced to three consecutive life terms in prison, plus 20 years, following the guilty verdict.

The charges date to 2016 when an 11-year-old was assaulted in Myers’ home, DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston said in a statement. The investigation revealed that Myers sexually assaulted the child on multiple occasions, Boston added.

Myers stood trial in October 2019, but a hung jury was declared, Boston said. While Myers was out on bond, Boston said he violated the conditions and made telephone contact with the victim. He bribed the child with money and gifts to recant the initial statement of abuse, she said.

The victim eventually recanted the statement, but the jury found the evidence in the case strong enough to convict Myers, Boston said.
