A woman is in police custody in connection with a stolen guide dog, and the dog has been reunited with its blind owner.
Bonnie Ritchie, 21, is in Montgomery County Jail. Charges against her have not yet been listed.
The dog, a pure bred Rottweiler named Diamond, was turned over to police this morning by a man who bought the dog on Craigslist. He took the dog to the police station after suspecting it was the missing animal.
The dog’s owner, Sheryl Williams, had been pleading for its return since it was stolen on Feb. 17.
Williams’ family said a suspicious white car was parked outside her home when Diamond went missing. That was around 8:30 a.m. when Williams' grandson put Diamond out on a cable to go to the bathroom. About 10 minutes later, when he went to bring the dog inside, Diamond was gone.
"Whoever has her, I just wish they'd bring her home," Williams said on Tuesday.
Williams said Diamond has run off before, but has always come back.
"We waited, and she just hasn't come back home and that's why I believe that someone has her," she said.
A $500 reward was offered for Diamond's return.
