There’s still time to cast a ballot in today’s statewide primary, but do it quickly: Polls close at 7 p.m.
Anecdotal reports of a light Election Day turnout came amid very few reports of problems at the polls. The biggest occurred in Fulton County, where officials said more than 40 voters were given the wrong ballots because local district maps had not been updated ahead of the primary.
The Georgia Secretary of State's Office has also opened an investigation into a local Sandy Springs special election after state officials said they have received several complaints over a local decision to open only one polling place to serve seven precincts for voters interested in a city council seat. Local officials are holding that special election separately from the state primary, meaning voters are having to go to separate polling locations to cast a vote on a primary ballot.
In Gwinnett County, one polling location in Norcross will remain open until 7:42 p.m. after a poll manager accidentally locked herself out of the facility this morning and the location opened late.
In DeKalb County, police were called after a woman driving to a local church to vote accidentally lost control of her car and ended up in the playground. No one was injured in the accident.
Voters can find sample ballots and confirm Election Day polling locations through the Georgia Secretary of State Office's online "my voter page" website (www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do).
