State ethics commission director Holly LaBerge returns to the witness stand today on Day 3 of the trial in the lawsuit brought by her predecessor.

LaBerge was sworn in late Tuesday afternoon and testified for more than an hour. When Fulton County Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville reconvenes the case today, LaBerge will continue.

LaBerge was the third witness called in the trial involving the commission and its investigation into Gov. Nathan Deal’s 2010 campaign. Former commission director Stacey Kalberman sued the agency, claiming she was forced from her job in 2011 for investigating Deal’s campaign.

During Tuesday’s testimony, LaBerge confirmed that she was contacted by someone in Deal’s office to see if she was interested in Kalberman’s job before it was open. LaBerge testified that she did not remember who called her. Asked if it was Ryan Teague, Deal’s chief counsel, LaBerge said she did not believe so.

Deal’s office has told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that it was in fact Teague who called LaBerge.
