A House subcommittee on Monday rejected attempts by Democrats to add protections for gays, lesbians and transgender Georgians to civil rights bill.
The panel of the Judiciary Committee voted down Rep. Taylor Bennett's amendment before approving House Bill 849 by a voice vote.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Rich Golick, R-Smyrna, would match Georgia state law to federal civil rights statutes. It would offer bar discrimination in public accommodations based on race, religions and national origin. The bill now goes to the full committee.
