State Rep. Brian Thomas, D-Lilburn, announced Thursday that he will resign July 1 to accept a new job in Maine.

Thomas was elected to represent House District 100 in Gwinnett County in 2005. He has accepted a job as national director of Cultural Resources Services for the Natural Resources Group and will be moving to Lamoine, Maine

“Rep. Brian Thomas has been a strong and consistent voice for Gwinnett and for the citizens of Georgia,” House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, D-Atlanta, said in a statement. “As an environmental leader, an education advocate and a leader within the Democratic Party, Georgia has been the beneficiary of a nimble and effective leader.”

Thomas is an Army veteran who holds a Ph.D in anthropology and a law degree from Georgia State University.
