Cash 4 players have a chance to earn extra money because one of the Georgia Lottery’s ball machines malfunctioned during Wednesday’s drawing.
It’s the second glitch in as many weeks that has hindered a game, although lottery officials offered assurances these were one-time complications.
Wednesday’s problem was discovered after the regular midday Cash 4 drawing. An inspection found a mechanical issue with one of the game’s machines that prevented a “proper” mixing of the numbered balls used to declare the game’s winning combination.
The winning numbers for the drawing were: 4-2-1-0. Those tickets will be honored as winners.
The lottery also will hold two Cash 4 midday drawings next Wednesday instead of one. Tickets will be eligible for both drawings, which are scheduled to start at 12:29 p.m.
A computer glitch last week caused the system to reject nearly $35,000 in KENO! winnings during a promotion that was meant to award players a 30 percent bonus payout on winning tickets. Winners in that game were still allowed to collect their additional money, and the lottery extended its KENO! bonus hours in its session this week.
“We conduct almost 3,000 live drawings a year, and this is a very rare anomaly,” lottery spokeswoman Tandi Reddick said. “We operate very openly and honestly and want to do what’s fair for our players.”
