Forget the midnight train to Georgia. Atlantans can now travel down the new Gladys Knight Highway.

A portion of Ga. 9 running through the city was officially dedicated to the Georgia-born Empress of Soul this week after Gov. Nathan Deal signed Senate Resolution 441 in her honor.

Grammy Award-winner Gladys Knight greeted guests before the highway dedication ceremony honoring Gladys Knight at the Georgia State Capitol on Tuesday, June 9, 2015. The state Senate unanimously passed a proposal to name State Route 9 from Peachtree Street to 14th Street after the Atlanta-born superstar, who has never before anything named after her in her home state. The highway may not take you to the "simpler place and time" intoned in Knight's greatest hit as it passes through Midtown. It runs along West Peachtree Street, from where it intersects with Peachtree Street south to 14th Street.

It’s the first time anything has been named for Knight in her home state, despite a 50-year career, more than 40 albums and seven Grammy awards.

State Sen. Donzella James, D-Atlanta, sponsored the resolution.
