Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp on Wednesday officially certified last week’s voting results, closing the books on the 2014 midterm election. Kemp’s action essentially makes the tally official, including these three quick facts:

Statewide turnout

At 50 percent, last week’s turnout was a welcome uptick from the state’s 20 percent mark in the May primary election. Still, it fell below the state’s previous midterm election in 2010, when turnout hit 52 percent.

Voters

There are 5.1 million active voters in Georgia, but only about half of them cast ballots last week despite several nationally important races — including a U.S. Senate seat with no incumbent. Fayette County drew the highest turnout, at 61.09 percent. And the lowest? Clinch County, at 34.09 percent

Highest vote-getters

State Public Service Commission member Doug Everett, a Republican incumbent, was the top vote-getter. His 1,532,652 votes were the most of any candidate.

U.S. Senate hopeful Michelle Nunn received more votes than any other Democrat, with 1,160,811 ballots cast in her favor, albeit in a losing cause.

State incumbent Sen. Judson Hill, R-Marietta, was the top vote-getter among those vying to join or stay in the General Assembly. Hill, who was unopposed, received 55,758 votes.
