Democratic candidate for superintendent visits north Georgia

Democrat Valarie Wilson, the former City Schools of Decatur school board chairwoman who is running for state superintendent, is making several stops in North Georgia over the next couple days.

Former state Rep. Barbara Massey Reece is hosting a meet and greet with Wilson today from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 9929 Commerce Street in Summerville. That will be followed by a Wilson appearance and speech at the Floyd Democrats Giants dinner from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Rome Civic Center.

On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Wilson is scheduled to meet with Jackie McDowell, dean of Berry College’s Charter School of Education and Human Sciences, at 302 E. 3rd Avenue in Rome.

Jeb Arp and Luke Chafin are hosting a $25-per person fundraising dinner at their E. 3rd Avenue home in Rome from 10 a.m. until noon. From there, Wilson heads to the Train Depot at 109 S. King Street in Calhoun, where she will meet with local education leaders in a 90-minute gathering hosted by Fred Gould.

Wilson will close her busy Saturday with two other events — a meet and greet from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Whitefield Democrats campaign headquarters at 2705 Airport Road, suite 107 in Dalton and a 7 p.m. speech at the Chattooga County Democrats Jefferson Jackson dinner at the Chattooga County Civic Center in Summerville.
