A Jamaican man who was living illegally in Atlanta and who had been convicted last year of assaulting a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon was among 2,059 immigrants without legal status who were arrested last week by federal immigration authorities during a nationwide sweep.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not identify the man but said he has also been convicted of breaking and entering, larceny and speeding to elude arrest.

In all, ICE arrested 92 people in Georgia during the five-day “Cross Check” operation, the sixth of its kind.

Among those who were arrested are gang members and people convicted of driving under the influence or committing domestic violence. They will now face deportation.
