The editorial board at The Emory Wheel, the student newspaper at Emory University, this week endorsed two proposals moving through the General Assembly dealing with mass transit — House Bill 930 and Senate Bill 386. The board wrote that these two proposals "constitute an important step in creating a strong public transportation system with benefits both to Emory and the greater Atlanta area. … Both Emory administration and community members should work to support their passage." Central to both bills by state Sen. Brandon Beach, R-Alpharetta, and state Rep. Kevin Tanner, R-Dawsonville, is a process for expanding and financing MARTA beyond its current three counties.

In an editorial, the paper says Deal's counterparts, including the governors of North Carolina and South Carolina, have made clear their opposition to exploration and drilling. But, the paper says, "Deal said nothing beyond voicing his doubts about Georgia's coastline being a profitable offshore drilling locale. The newspaper said: "That's skillful politicking, but poor leadership."
