If commuting is easier Monday, thank spring break.

School districts across metro Atlanta are closed and hundreds of thousands of kids will not be rushing to and from school.

The school systems in Atlanta and Decatur, as well as in Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb and Gwinnett counties, will be closed this week.

In most districts, the administrative offices will also be closed.

For many, it’s a scheduled leave. But in DeKalb County, the central office closure resulted from budget cuts. Administrators will take furlough days during the week, spokeswoman Lillian Govus said.

Traffic — and high stress — resume next Monday. Commuters won’t be the only ones under pressure: the statewide Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests begin soon after spring break at most schools.
