A busy Cobb County thoroughfare reopened to traffic Wednesday afternoon, more than nine hours after a massive tree came crashing down onto three vehicles.

The tree fell onto South Cobb Drive, just west of Cobb Parkway and adjacent to Dobbins Air Reserve Base, shortly before 5 a.m.

Three vehicles were heavily damaged by the tree.

Cobb fire Lt. Denell Boyd said one driver needed assistance getting out of a vehicle, but there were no injuries.

All lanes of South Cobb Drive were blocked throughout the morning and into the afternoon before finally reopening about 2 p.m.
