A Smyrna murder suspect was arrested outside Reno, Nev., police said.

Derrick McLaurence Williams was taken into custody overnight in connection with the murder of his wife, Finesse Dawson, Smith said. He said no details were immediately available on Williams’ arrest.

Police say Williams beat and strangled Dawson in their home on Dec. 5, before cleaning up her body and wrapping it in bedding to hide the crime.

Investigators say Williams waited before telling anyone that Dawson had died, and claimed that she succumbed to some sort of drug overdose.

An warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of homicide, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and concealing a death.

Williams spent seven months in prison last year on weapons and drug charges, officials said.

He is being held without bond at the Washoe County jail, near Reno.
