Two people were shot, one fatally, in the parking lot of a southwest Atlanta apartment complex Tuesday night, according to police.

Officers responded to the 200 block of Brownlee Road, off Boulder Park Drive, shortly after 7 p.m. after a 911 caller reported shots fired, Lt. Paul Guerrucci with Atlanta police said.

One person died at the scene after being shot in the chest, Guerrucci said. Another person had been shot in the leg and was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. The names of the victims were not released.

“We believe the incidents are related,” Guerrucci told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We are actively working the crime scene.”

No one was in custody late Tuesday, according to police.

The shootings happened in the parking lot of burned-out apartments, but adjacent apartment buildings are occupied, Guerrucci said. Investigators were expected to remain on the scene several hours looking for evidence, he said.
