Ahead of the Thanksgiving week holiday chaos, Saturday is shaping up to be a cool start to a relatively quiet weekend in Atlanta.

“Sunny, a little bit breezy and cool,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said of Saturday’s forecast. “Kind of a classic fall day.”

Starting with a low of 37 degrees, the Atlanta area is expected to warm into the high 50s under clear, sunny skies. A steady breeze is expected through the day, Nitz said, so it might make sense to save the raking and leaf blowing for Sunday.

Sunday is expected to be warmer, with a high in the low 60s and less wind. Rain will move through northern Georgia late Sunday night, Nitz said, so Monday is expected to be wet and cold. The first half of the week will be chilly but gradually warm toward Thanksgiving.

A more subdued fall weekend is in store for metro Atlanta with only one major sports team playing at home. The Atlanta Hawks will take on the Charlotte Hornets Saturday night in State Farm Arena at 7:30 p.m. Watch out for traffic in the downtown area as the Hawks hope to keep their homecourt advantage, which has been dominant so far in this young season.

After several busy weeks, roadwork is slowing down in Fulton County this weekend, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. The only major work announced in Fulton on Saturday is lane closures on I-75 at Mt. Paran Road and Cumberland Boulevard for bridge rehabilitation, and on I-85 at Cheshire Bridge Road, also for bridge rehabilitation.

Things are a little busier in Cobb County, where lane closures are expected in multiple places along Powder Springs Road. Daytime lane closures will be installed from New Mackland Road to Charles Hardy Parkway as a widening project continues. Lanes will also be closed on Powder Springs Road between Windy Hill and Sandtown roads for resurfacing.

Elsewhere in Cobb, Highway 92 will see lane closures Saturday for a widening and reconstruction project between North Cobb Parkway and Glade Road. Further south, lanes will be closed overnight on I-20 between Fulton and Douglas counties for restriping.

In DeKalb County, watch out for overnight lane closures on I-285 for restriping and other safety improvements between Chamblee Dunwoody and Snapfinger roads. There will also be overnight lane closures installed on Buford Highway for a resurfacing project.
