A cold front moving into the metro Atlanta area overnight will bring a bit of rain and much cooler temperatures with it.
After an unseasonably warm week, the cold front is expected to flip the script for the weekend, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz.
“Seventy-five is our average high this time of year,” Nitz said. “We’ve been way above that all week. We’re going to the other side of average: we’re going to be way below it as we head into and through the weekend.”
Saturday will start off much cooler and rainy, with a low dipping below 50 degrees and about a 30% chance of showers.
“The rain clears out quickly and the cool, dry air moves in,” Nitz said. Expect a breezy but sunny afternoon that should warm up to a high of about 70 degrees.
The Atlanta Braves will host the Los Angeles Dodgers at Truist Park on Saturday night just after 8 p.m. for the first game of the National League Championship Series, and fans in attendance will want to bundle up for chilly, windy weather. After sunset, the temperature is expected to fall through the 50s over the course of the game. A northwesterly wind will blow from behind home plate which could help both teams’ high-powered offenses.
Sunday will be even cooler, with the high temperatures not expected to reach 70 degrees despite sunny conditions. More sunny and cool weather is expected through the workweek, though it should warm to the mid-70s by Wednesday.

Traffic in Atlanta may have fewer impediments than usual Saturday. The Braves are the only major sports team hosting a home game in town, but expect traffic volume to increase around the junction of I-285 and I-75 well ahead of the 8 p.m. first pitch.
There is somewhat of a lull in roadwork around the metro area on Saturday, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. Several ongoing projects will continue in Cobb County, including a widening project on Ga. 92 that will involve installing lane closures between Cobb Parkway and Glade Road. Daytime and nighttime lane closures will be installed for widening projects on two different sections of Powder Springs Road. Further south in Cobb, I-20 will see overnight lane closures between Fulton and Douglas counties for restriping work.
In Clayton County, look out for overnight lane closures around the junction of I-75 and I-285 as construction continues on a new collector-distributor lane. On the northern side of I-285, overnight lane closures will be installed in DeKalb County for restriping and the installation of other safety and visibility features. Also in DeKalb, lane closures will be installed on I-85 from Clairmont Road down to Midtown for safety improvements.
Fulton County will be unusually quiet in terms of roadwork Saturday, per the DOT. There will be daytime lane closures on Cumming Highway and South Main Street in Alpharetta for a widening project. Lane closures will be installed on I-75 in both directions around Northside Drive and Howell Mill Road for bridge preservation work.
