Sandy Springs gave its blessing Tuesday night to a $120 million development it says will upgrade one of its major corridors now riddled with aged apartments.

After almost three hours of debate from residents, the City Council voted 5-1 to allow JLB Realty clearance to build a mixed-use development with 630 high-end apartments, retail and office space. By the same vote, city leaders approved a plan to realign the intersection of Roswell Road and Windsor Parkway.

The vote came over the objections of nearby residents who claim the city is going back on its commitment to preserve neighborhoods.

But proponents of the project said it would propel the city on its way to revitalizing Roswell Road.

The development will be located on Roswell Road, just north of the Atlanta city limits.
