Roswell police will soon be equipped with new tools to deal with both overheated pets and kids, courtesy of a local business.

The owners of Atlanta Home Theater will present Roswell police command and K-9 officers with temperature gauges and cooling vests later this week. Police said one of the firm's workers watched an officer who rescued a dog from a hot car recently buy a temperature gauge with his own money as he investigated the internal temperature in the vehicle.

As a result, the theater company is donating temperature measuring devices for all day shift officers, and cooling vests equipped with a temperature-reducing device unit to be used both for the department's K-9 dogs and for rescued and overheated dogs and cats. The vests can also be used on children, if needed.

The $2,000 donation from Scott and Jennifer Ross is set to be made during a ceremony on Friday.
