Five firefighters and one police officer from Cobb County are being investigated on allegations they may have been involved in illegal steroid use.
The investigation was launched based on a tip to the county’s narcotics unit, said Robert Quigley, spokesman for Cobb County government.
“At this point, Cobb County is investigating claims of six employees who may have consumed or distributed steroids without a prescription,” Quigley said.
Three firefighters have been placed on administrative leave. One resigned, and another remains on the job pending the outcome of the investigation, the spokesman said. The police officer also has resigned.
“We began our own inquiry into this to make sure our employees were living both on duty and off duty by the standards we expect,” Quigley said.
Quigley said the investigation should wrap up within the next two weeks.
