Gene Rosen looks out a window in his home in Sandy Hook, Conn. On the day of the shooting at the town elementary school, Rosen discovered four girls and two boys sitting at the end of his driveway; they had just run from the school, among the first to escape Friday.

After finding the small children, Rosen ran upstairs and grabbed an armful of stuffed animals he kept there. He gave those to the children, along with some fruit juice and sat with them as the two boys described seeing their teacher being shot.

The children told Gene Rosen their teacher had been killed.
