Southern Polytechnic State University police are investigating after a student from another college reported that she was chased by a knife-wielding man Tuesday afternoon on SPSU’s Marietta campus.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. Tuesday in a parking lot near SPSU’s Student Center, Channel 2 Action News reported.

According to Channel 2, the intended victim, a student from Georgia Highlands College in Rome, was able to get away and call SPSU police, who sent out a message warning of a life-threatening danger on campus and telling students to shelter in place because of a crime in progress.

“Five minutes into the alert, it was a ghost town,” freshman Matt Leonard told Channel 2. “There was no one walking around.”

The Georgia Highlands student was not injured in the incident.

In recent weeks, attacks have been reported on students at Georgia Tech, Morehouse College and Spelman College in Atlanta.
