Mechanical problems may have caused a Friday morning wreck in DeKalb County that temporarily shut down northbound lanes of I-285 and killed two people, including a 10-year-old child.

A preliminary investigation indicated a AAA Cooper Transportation tractor-trailer experiencing mechanical difficulties came to a stop, according to Channel 2 Action News. About 6:30 a.m., a Honda Odyssey traveling north on I-285 just south of Memorial Drive ran into the back of the tractor-trailer, DeKalb police Capt. Stephen Fore told the television station.

Sri Susanto, 43, who was in the front passenger seat of the Odyssey, died at the scene, according to Channel 2. Another passenger, Herbert Lim, 10, died at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Kumi Saprong, 43, who was driving the SUV, is in fair condition at Grady Memorial Hospital, Channel 2 reported. An unidentified 13-year-old boy also at Egleston is expected to survive, Fore said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, whose name was not released, was not injured, according to Channel 2.

While the crash remains under investigation, all northbound lanes of I-285 have reopened to traffic.
