Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed will launch his summer reading initiative, the “Mayor’s Summer Reading Club,” on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta, 275 Centennial Olympic Park Dr.

The kick-off event “Let’s Read, Let’s Move” is a part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s initiative to jointly combat the possible loss of important reading skills during the summer, as well as the ongoing national challenges associated with childhood obesity.

Reed and Stephanie Blank, chairwoman of Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students, will be on hand to welcome the children as they participate in activities such as craft-making, reading, learning how to make healthy meals, and jumping and moving around with other fitness activities. All children who attend will receive a free book geared to their age group.
