Cobb County police were on the scene of a homicide at the InTown Suites on Monday.

A 30-year-old woman found dead in a Cobb County hotel this week was likely killed with an “edged weapon,” police said Tuesday.

Around 11:30 a.m. Monday, officers were called to the InTown Suites Extended Stay on Barrett Creek Parkway near Town Center at Cobb on a report of a person down, according to Cobb police spokeswoman Officer Shenise Barner. There, they found a woman, later identified as Jalin Belton, dead at the scene.

“Preliminary information suggests she died from injuries sustained from an edged weapon,” Barner said in an emailed statement.

Belton previously had two small children with her in the hotel, police said. Investigators confirmed both children are safe with relatives out of state and neither was in the room when Belton was killed, Barner said.

The family of Belton, who was originally from Virginia, has been notified, police said.

No information was released about a possible suspect. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Cobb police Crimes Against Persons unit at 770-499-4111 or email cobbpolicecrimetips@cobbcounty.org.
