Police seek man, woman in unusual Sandy Springs robbery

Police announced Friday that they are looking for a man and a woman in the unusual robbery of a package shipping business in Sandy Springs.

The robbers hit America's Mail Center in Abernathy Square Shopping Center on Roswell Road on Thursday around 5 p.m. The man and woman, both armed with pistols, jumped over the counter and assaulted two employees, said Sgt. Ron Momon of the Sandy Springs Police Department.

They tied up the two staffers and put them in a restroom before stealing an undisclosed amount of money, Momon said.

Detective Mike Tuvlin, who is investigating the case, said he had no idea why the robbers took the time-consuming step of tying up the employees if all they were seeking was cash. He said he didn’t know if they had searched the inventory.

In typical stickups of stores or banks, the gunmen focus on getting the cash and getting out of the business fast.

“I have no idea whether they were searching for a package,” he told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I can’t explain their motivations.”

A surveillance camera captured the robbery. Police described the couple as African-American with the man wearing a black T-shirt and cargo pants that were either green or khaki in color. The woman was wearing a black shirt, spandex shorts, and a baseball cap that was black in the front and pink and red in the back.

Anyone with information on the identity of these suspects is asked to contact Tuvlin at 770-551-6900 and/or email mtuvlin@sandyspringsga.gov.
