Police seek man who left suspicious package at Lilburn City Hall
Police are searching for the man who left a package in front of Lilburn City Hall Tuesday afternoon and drove away, prompting a temporary shutdown of the area.
A man, wearing a red Polo-style shirt and black slacks, drove up in a black SUV, parked on Main Street in front of Lilburn City Hall, took a metal package out of the trunk, put it on the sidewalk and drove away, police Capt. Thomas Bardugon said. The area was shut down and evacuated.
The Gwinnett County Fire Department, Hazardous Device Unit and the Joint Terrorism Task Force all responded and, using a remote controlled robot, determined the package was not dangerous, Bardugon said. The area around Lilburn City Hall eventually reopened.
Though the package posed no threat, the case remains under investigation.
