There were no weapons. No one was injured. This wasn’t a smash-and-grab.
Instead, two men simply swiped an ATM from Atlantic Station and drove away with it, according to surveillance video released Thursday.
“They just walked in and took it,” Officer Kim Jones with Atlanta police said. “You can tell that’s why they were there.”
Investigators know how the July 3 crimes was committed. Now they want to identify the two responsible, Jones said.
It’s not yet known if the two accused of stealing the ATM are responsible for similar recent crimes. But Jones said Atlanta police are communicating with the FBI and other agencies for possible correlations.
Investigators hope someone will recognize the two men shown in the surveillance footage leaving the 17th Street deck in a Dodge Caravan. The two apparently had a transponder which allowed them to access the deck, according to a police report.
One suspect was described as a black male with a medium complexion and average build. He was wearing a white hoodie, black skull hat, dark pants, black and white sneakers and blue rubber gloves, police said.
The second suspect also was a black male with a medium complexion and average build. He was wearing a brown T-shirt, blue jeans, black and white sneakers, and a baby blue baseball cap.
The van was recovered three days later on Delevan Street in southwest Atlanta with the ATM still inside, according to police. Jones said it was not known if the ATM was opened or how much it may have contained at the time it was stolen.
Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to contact Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8417). A $2,000 reward is being offered in the case, Jones said.
