Roswell police have released sketches of the two men believed to have cut a Roswell police officer in the face and arm during an altercation Wednesday morning.

According to Roswell police spokeswoman Officer Lisa Holland, the assault happened at the Champions Green apartments off Holcomb Bridge Road, where Officer John Lathem was patrolling following a recent shooting and saw two suspicious men. When he attempted to speak with the two, a struggle ensued, and Lathem was cut with a knife on his face and forearm.

Holland said Lathem met with a GBI forensic artist, who provided the sketches of the men involved in the attack.

A 15-year veteran of the Roswell police force, Lathem received numerous stitches in his face and arm as a result of the attack. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Anyone with information on either man’s identity or whereabouts is asked to call the Roswell Police Department at 770-640-4100.
