Investigators believe a 24-year-old man was texting before causing a two-vehicle wreck that temporarily closed three lanes of I-75 Tuesday afternoon in Marietta.

Eric Shumate, 24, of Cartersville, was driving a Nissan Altima southbound around 2 p.m. when he struck a Nissan Leaf in the rear, just south of the Canton Road Connector, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

After the impact, the Leaf traveled off the roadway and overturned, injuring the driver, Harry Harold, 24, of Kennesaw, the GSP said. Harold was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The Altima ignited after the impact, according to police. Shumate was charged with following too closely and texting while driving, a GSP spokeswoman said. He was not injured.

The wreck blocked three lanes for about three hours Tuesday afternoon.
