A McDonough man who police found passed out in his SUV, with a 2-year-old in the front seat, was arrested on several charges, including DUI, possession of cocaine and child endangerment, authorities said.

Robert Eugene Mobley, 39, who told Henry County Police his name was Robert Griffin, was arrested about 5:30 a.m. Sunday after police found him passed out in his vehicle on the Jodeco Road exit ramp off Interstate 75 southbound in McDonough. At the time of his arrest Mobley’s 2-year-old son was in the front passenger seat of the vehicle, according to the incident report from Henry County police.

When police arrived at the scene, Mobley’s vehicle was stopped at a traffic signal, but the light was green. The engine was running, the SUV was in gear, his foot was on the brake, but he was slumped over in the driver’s seat, according to the report.

Police say there was a whiskey bottle in the car seat and a Styrofoam cup with whiskey in it in the cup holder next to the driver’s seat.

The responding police officer made three attempts to arouse Mobley, and on the third try the man did come to and turn off the vehicle, but he failed to put the SUV in park, according to the report. Once the vehicle was parked, Mobley exited the SUV and the officer reported “a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle.”

After a field sobriety test Mobley was placed under arrest and taken to the Henry County Jail. The child was released to a relative, according to the report.

Mobley was also arrested on charges of having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, not properly securing the child in a car seat and driving on a suspended or revoked license. He posted a $20,000 bond Tuesday, even though there is a notation in his jail booking record that he might be a flight risk.
