A woman died within hours of tumbling out of a moving car in Buckhead late Monday, and police are working to determine if she was pushed from it.

The woman was found unconscious on the pavement in the intersection of Piedmont and Peachtree roads about 11 p.m., Atlanta police said in a statement. She was rushed to a hospital but died of her injuries.

“Preliminary investigation indicated that the victim may have been pushed or may have fallen from a moving vehicle,” the statement said.

Police said the car sped away from the scene, leaving her behind. It has not been located.

While officers were initially called to the scene on a report of a person being hit by a car, it is not clear if such a crash resulted in the woman’s death. An investigation is ongoing.
