Police are investigating a murder-suicide near Lawrenceville.

Family members of 48-year-old Thuy Phan and her 24-year-old autistic son Vincent Phan said the two went missing Thursday evening, Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Ed Ritter said.

After a search, the oldest son of Thuy Phan located his mother’s car at Rock Springs Park and called Gwinnett police. About 10 p.m. Thursday, a team searching for Thuy and Vincent Phan found their bodies in a wooded area off of a paved pathway in the park, Ritter said.

“Investigators believe that Mrs. Phan shot her son and then turned the gun on herself,” he said. “Investigators continue to investigate and are attempting to establish a motive for this apparent murder/suicide.”
