An argument over a puppy led to a fatal stabbing early Wednesday in Gwinnett County, police said.

The stabbing happened around 1 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 300 block of Congress Parkway, in a neighborhood off Patterson Road near Lawrenceville, police said.

Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said Diamond G. Mason, 23, stabbed his stepfather, Joseph J. Kollie, 51, multiple times, and Kollie died at the scene.

Mason brought a puppy into the home about a week ago, and Kollie “did not approve of this and repeatedly asked him to remove the puppy from the home,” Ritter said in an email early Wednesday.

“Late last night into the early hours of this morning, the two had a heated argument over the puppy. At some point, Mr. Mason retrieved a couple of large knives and repeatedly stabbed Mr. Kollie.”

Mason was arrested and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. He is being held in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
