DeKalb County police fatally shot a man who authorities said tried to steal a police vehicle Friday afternoon after he had been Tasered.

The unidentified man later died after being taken to a hospital, according to Channel 2 Action News.

A witness told Channel 2 the man, who the witness said looked like he had been beaten up, was wielding a knife when police were called to the scene on Wilkins Road in DeKalb County around 3:30 p.m.

When the man ignored officers’ commands to put the knife down, the witness said they used a Taser to subdue him.

Shortly afterward, the witness told Channel 2 shots were heard, and the officers were seen firing into their own vehicle.

An investigator told Channel 2 the man appeared to be trying to steal the police vehicle when he was shot.

The investigation into the shooting was continuing, police said.
